Mayor Anesh Taps Bengivenga & Wolak for Council
Mayor Matt Anesh announced this week that Council President Rob Bengivenga and Councilman Joe Wolak will be seeking re-election and running as a team with him in November.
“The council is taking things in the right direction, and we want to continue that,” said Bengivenga when announcing his decision. “The three of us will be running on a record we think shows that we’ve worked hard for our hometown.”
“We plan to offer a positive campaign about the direction of South Plainfield,” added Wolak. “We plan to show the positive direction it’s heading in now, and where we want to take things.”
Mayor Matt Anesh welcomed both councilmen to the ticket, saying they are each strong candidates with records of getting results.
“Rob and Joe have been a key part of our team that has been getting it done,” said Anesh. “I am excited to have them both on my reelection team”
Below are just a few examples that show how the Anesh team is getting it done for South Plainfield:
Keeping South Plainfield Affordable
The 2018 Municipal budget calls for no tax increase and while nearby towns are seeing huge tax hikes; the part of the tax bill controlled by the council is still lower than it was in 2009. That is why South Plainfield has one of the lowest tax rates in the County. But that’s still not good enough for Matt, Rob and Joe. They’ll continue to make the same tough spending decisions families routinely make around the kitchen table.
Recreation & Park Enhancements
Our senior center and recreation department both have seen programs and memberships increase year over year. In 2017, we held the grand opening of the new Southside Dog Park, which was the first new park, added to the borough’s roster in decades. We made improvements to our community pool, lights were installed at Memorial Field and in 2018, our library will install an inclusive playground at Willow Park. If re-elected, Matt, Joe and Rob say they will continue to invest in our youth and senior programs.
Investing In Our Hometown
Keeping South Plainfield affordable is our top priority but we also need to invest more into our hometown's future. After a harsh winter and the utility companies installing new lines, relief is on its way. In 2018, we will see a record amount of roads being repaved. The first major road will be Hadley Rd. Phase 1, from Durham Ave to Cragwood Rd followed by many more over the summer and into the fall. In addition to investing in our infrastructure, Matt, Rob & Joe say they will also continue to invest in the future of all our public safety departments.
“These are just a few of the items that we have been able to do while keeping taxes under control,” said Bengivenga. “We are looking forward to discussing the issues and meeting our neighbors over the next few months.”
“We believe we have a lot to offer,” added Wolak. “We’re not career politicians looking to build a resume or climb the ladder. We’re your neighbors, people who want to work together and get the job done.”
Mayor Anesh summed up the announcement by saying, “Rob, Joe and I know that the voters in South Plainfield demand results. That’s why we hope to earn the town’s support by talking not only about our record, but by talking about how to keep things going in the right direction for our hometown.”
